Roughly 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.
The 1998 Château Rouget shows a medium-bodied, evolved character, with soft, earthy, truffle-tinged layers underpinning sweet plum, cherry and gentle tobacco spice — a classic Right Bank Pomerol profile. Over time it has mellowed into supple, silky tannins with a refined finish, offering a smooth, contemplative sip rather than aggressive youth.
Château Rouget is one of the oldest recorded estates in Pomerol, with origins dating back to the 1700s and a reputation that grew steadily throughout the 19th century as the appellation began to gain prominence. In 1992, the Labruyère family purchased the property and invested heavily in vineyard and cellar improvements, transforming Rouget into a quietly reliable over-achiever that delivers classic Pomerol richness without the eye-watering prices of its famous neighbors.
