2019 Lunaria Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Coste di Moro'
Product Details
Wine Type: Red Wine
Grape Varietal: Montepulciano
Country of Origin: Italy
Appellation/Region: Abruzzo
Farming: Biodynamic

100% certified organic and biodynamic Montepulciano grown on traditional capanne, or pergolas, in the Peligna valley. Handpicked fruit, fermented with native yeasts and aged solely in cement. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur additions. Vegan. ‘Coste di Moro’ serves as the flagship wine for Lunaria, just as Montepulciano serves the flagship red varietal in Abruzzo. The string on the label is made from wool from the estate’s own sheep!

Tasting Notes

Pours a dark red color with ruby highlights. Medium bodied and juicy, but surprisingly rich in the mouth, with notes of dried fruit, dusty cocoa, red and black plums, black cherries, almonds and a touch of balsamic. Layers of flavors emerge from the lush mouthfeel. Balanced enough to drink on its own, but will do well with food. In my experience, this wine continues to improve on the second or third day after being opened.

About Lunaria

Lunaria was formed as a cooperative of 600 farmers in 1964, who all shared the same goal of conservation and a reverence for organic and biodynamic winemaking. This came in hand with the place - Majella National Park, one of the largest and most diverse parks in all of Italy. The farmers settled on this are to aid in their mission and have not looked back. Lunaria wines were launched several decades later and were meant to evoke the initial goals of these farmers in a fun and charming way. Production is now fully biodynamic whilst supplying a world market.  Their focus is truly on a holistic approach in both vineyard and winery, with careful attention paid at each interval – from the inextricable link between pollinating bees & yeast, to the renewable material of wool, showcased in a delicate tie on each bottle made from sheep with whom they share the land.
