An old vine blend of mostly Zinfandel and various other unidentified grapes. The Kirschenmann Vineyard rests in a sandy, chalk and silica rich oxbow of the Mokelumne River. Planted in 1915 on its own roots, this organically and dry farmed vineyard has fast become one of Lodi’s most prized sites under the stewardship of Tegan Passalaqua (Turley, Sandlads). Fermented and aged naturally with only a small addition of sulfur post MLF. Aged in a 1000L Slavonian oak fuder and older French barriques. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2019 vintage is regarded as producing wines with excellent balance, structured tannins, and rich fruit, noted for having a “classic” character. This wine is showing great with five years in the bottle, showing a bit more earthiness to its berry basket fruit. Soft tannins.
