50% Grenache and 50% Mourvèdre, all estate grown and Demeter certified biodynamic. The Grenache vines are 50-70 years old with the Mourvèdre vines 20-30 years old. The grapes are destemmed, then undergo a 24-30 day vinification, with daily punchdowns. It is aged in large oak casks for 8-10 months, then concrete vats for 3-6 months, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. This is a lush, velvety wine with aromas of red berries, plum, woodsy spice and dark chocolate. Full bodied and smooth, with plenty of round tannin and balanced acidity. Give it a bit of air if you’re drinking it in the next few years. Domaine des Coteaux de Travers (literally “domaine of the slopes on the side of the rising sun”) is owned and farmed by Robert Charavin, whose grandfather Elie began cultivating the vines in 1931.
