2021 Terroir Historic Negre Priorat

'Historic' offers a regional expression of Priorat. For this wine, Dominik brings together Garnacha and Carinyena (35-50 year-old vines) fruit from several organically farmed vineyards from the nine villages of Priorat. Simple vinification – whole bunch fermentation with native yeasts, followed by 6 months in a 5000L concrete tank – allows the fruit to shine through unobscured, showcasing a flavour profile unique to the terroir. 

This wine displays beautiful red fruit aromas, fragrant florals and dried Mediterranean herbs and a steely minerality. The palate is fine and fresh, with supple tannins and a seductive core of cherry fruit.

While working on establishing Terroir al Limit, Dominik Huber became entranced with the Priorat’s history – its rhythms of life, the simple cuisine, and the honest wines that honored their origins. When walking past the crumbling Sindicat Agricola in Torroja, he could recall those few bottles of Priorat he had tasted from vintages in the 1970s, and he envisioned a future where such wines could again be made.

The wines of Terroir Historic are meant to be enjoyed rather than contemplated. Rather than focusing on individual parcels, Dominik sources grapes from many different vineyards throughout the region. These complex blends – dazzling mosaics of aroma and flavor – authentically express the Priorat landscape’s diversity.

93 points, Wine Advocate. "The red 2021 Terroir Históric has moderate ripeness and 13.5% alcohol from a slightly cooler year that resulted in a tighter wine that is a little closed. It was bottled a little earlier with good freshness, more vertical and a little reticent but with balance. It has purity and is clean, with fine tannins. It aged exclusively in stainless steel (in the past they used concrete). It's medium-bodied, fresh and easy to drink. 30,000 bottles."
