This ‘true’ field blend is primarily Zinfandel with Mataro, Carignan, Palomino and Muscat. The Evangelho Vineyard is one of the great ancient Zinfandel vineyards, unique in its composition and location; head trained, own- rooted and dry farmed sites like this represent California’s great gift to the vinous world. Evangelho was planted in 1890 on 30 vertical feet of alluvial sand at the western edge of Oakley, on the great California Delta. These sands are granite and quartz, literally blown from the Sierra Nevada over millennia. Fermented and aged naturally with only a small addition of sulfur post MLF. Aged in older French barriques. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Full bodied but fresh, with lush dark black and purple fruits, a pleasing earthiness, mouthfilling texture, soft tannins and balanced acidity. Ripe but not overripe. 14.5% alcohol.
