2024 Carballal Albariño 'Sete Cepas'

100% organic Albariño. Hand harvested, fermented with native yeasts and aged in stainless steel. Minimal sulphur additions are bottling only. 7 Cepas is a playful nod to the fact that there are seven brothers in the family that make this wine.

Produced from younger vine estate grapes and purchased fruit, this delicious Albariño seems to pull the minerals from the soil and the sea air not far away. Very refreshing with nice bracing acidity, there are hints of exotic fruits as well as stone fruits. with a classic salty, sea-air note on the finish.  A perfect match with warm weather fare as well as being the absolute perfect match with fish and shellfish.

Located in a historical sub-zone of O Salnés in the heart of the Rias Baixas DO in Northwest Spain, Carballal is a small, forty acre estate owned by the Vásquez Abal family, who has been working their land for over 40 years. They are a family-run winery set up by Benito Vázquez, one of the founding members of the D.O. Rías Baixas. Today, with Juan Carlos at the helm, seven brothers are responsible for maintaining the family philosophy of making wines that are an authentic expression of their terroir within the Salnés Valley.

The focus here is Albariño made in a traditional manner: organic farming, vineyard work and harvesting done by hand, high trellising nearly six feet off the ground, native yeast fermentation. Five of the forty acres contain 45 year-old vines; these vines are vinified separately to produce their flagship wine. The soils here are sandy, weathered granite which allows for optimal drainage as well as pronounced aromatics in the wines.
