Product Details
Wine Type: Red Wine
Grape Varietal: Dolcetto
Country of Origin: Italy
Appellation/Region: Piedmont
Farming: Organic

100% organic Dolcetto from Renzo’s 7 hectaes of estate vineyards.  Vinified with traditional methods and no new oak.

This is a cult wine amongst the somm community, and it’s easy to see why.

Uncomplicated by oak or over-extraction, the wine possesses an impressive purity of fruit and delicate floral undertones while retaining just a touch of Italian rusticity. Intense waves of pulpy purple plum rush over crushed violets, blackberries, roasted almond, and clove at the onset. Dense yet vibrant on the palate, black cherry fruit is framed by plentiful fine tannins and savory suggestions of dried herbs, leather, earth, and black pepper. Fresh, laser-focused, and appetizingly tannic, with an overall seductive personality and lots of food-friendly acidity, this is an easy weeknight pop and pour still with loads of sophistication.

About Renzo Castella

Renzo Castella’s wines combine elite terroir and remarkable winemaking skill with an overtly unpretentious attitude. The wines’ complexity and depth are self evident, but there is nothing heavy handed or overwraught. The village of Diano is one of the only DOCG (Grand Cru-equivalent) growing sites for the Dolcetto Grape in all of Italy. The Castella family vineyards hug the borderline between Diano and Serralunga, Barolo (one of the most prestigious growing villages in Italy, period!). The steep hillsides and limestone-rich soils enjoying an ancient reputation for producing dark fruited, layered, and complex wines perfectly suited for the table, or extended aging in the cellar. Through organic farming practices and traditional winemaking technique passed down through generations of the same family, their wines express the soil, climate and history of Piedmont. The resulting wines are exceedingly expressive, detailed in aroma, and elegant. Vines have been grown in the family since the early 1900s. No herbicides or pesticides.
