I honestly can’t find any information about the varietal makeup of this wine- the importer doesn’t know either! All I know is that this wine is delicious, totally natural, and a total bargain. Here’s the description of the wine from the winery: “Since our beginnings in 1940 we have remained faithful to our elaboration and with Brincadeiro we have respected the tradition in a natural way, unfiltered wine, maintaining a slight fermentation in each bottle a legacy of our land and our people.” Organic farming, bottled unfined and unfiltered, zero sulfur adds.
Tasting Notes
Vino turbio is a cloudy, white wine from Galicia. The cloudy effect is due to sediment particles suspended in the wine. Light bodied and smooth, with loads of ripe fruit (peaches, pears, pineapple) along with some pithy tart citrus. There’s some slight yeastiness there, but its the kind that only adds to the delicious quality of the fruit here. Rocking acidity and the added textural quality of the suspended sediment make this wine so interesting to drink. Despite all of this, this is a wine that you can absolutely crush at 11% alcohol and makes a legendary pairing to any fried seafood.
About ViniGalicia
ViniGalicia was born in the Galician town of Chantada more than half a century ago. This wine group has its origin in 1940 when Manuel Méndez and Maruja Otero founded “Casa Penouzos”. In its beginnings, this establishment was dedicated to the hospitality industry and the sale of wines from the area, already at that time very recognized and well valued. Years later, together with their children Javier and Juan, the Méndez family decides to dedicate themselves exclusively to the world of wine, thus founding “Bodegas Penouzos”. ViniGalicia as a wine group was born physically in 1996. Its headquarters are located in Chantada, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, with an area of 1,550 hectares of vineyards, which represents 5.2% of a land dedicated to vines in Galicia.
