40% Aragonez, 30% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Miúda, 10% Alfrocheiro. Farming is sustainable and everything is hand harvested. Fermented in concrete with native yeasts and aged for nine months in used barrique. 14% alcohol. Only 100 cases made. A Garrafeira is traditionally simply a wine held in bottle longer before release. From the exceptional 2012 vintage, this bottle started out life as the Colheita Seleccionada. See what a difference the years have made, imbuing the wine with a beguiling liquorous quality and a tarry overtone. Almost tastes like well-aged Bordeaux, if a bit riper. Dusty blackberry, stewed plums, black cherry, leather, tobacco, chocolate, cigar box all make an appearance. Earthy and savory. Very dense, smooth and concentrated in flavor, and still plenty alive with acid and tannin after more than a decade. Drink this with a rich, rustic meal!
