100% Shiraz from the McLaren Vale’s cooler, rockier terroir and its namesake shale stone. Crushed directly into traditional open-topped concrete fermenters then manually pumped-over. Aged 15 months in 40% new French and American oak. 14.5% alcohol. Full bodied, silky, inky and densely concentrated, with surprising freshness and smoothness. Pours a deep purple color and shows off tons of black fruit, plum, pepper, dark florals and barrel-influenced notes of vanilla and coconut. Dry, with medium plus tannins and acidity. Primo Estate began its journey in 1953 when Primo Grilli, an 18-year-old from Italy’s Le Marche region, arrived in South Australia. After meeting his future wife, Santina, in Adelaide, they settled in Virginia, planting their vineyard in 1979. His son Joe now runs the estate.
