100% Verdelho from the island of Pico. The vines are over 100 years old and are grown on small volcanic black rocks (biscoitos) and surrounded by stone walls called currais. The rocks heat up in the sun, helping the grapes ripen, while the walls protect the vineyards from the elements. All free run juice. Fermented in stainless steel (80%) and neutral barrels (20%). 12.5% alcohol. Light golden color. Intense nose with aromas of citrus, pear, white flowers, musk, iberico ham, and a clean minerality. The light to medium bodied palate is dry, with notes of citrus, canned peaches, mandarin, wet stones and sea spray. High acidity, with a really long, mineral-driven finish and exuberant energy. Drink now or age for another 7+ years. Founded in 1949, Ilha do Pico is the largest cooperative winery in the Azores.
