100% Syrah from Rusack’s 17 acres of estate vines in Solvang. Aged 22 months in French oak. 1260 cases made. 14.7% alcohol. Full bodied and bone dry, with notes of blackberry, plum, cherry, dark chocolate, oak, vanilla, leather, and savory baking spice. Medium-plus tannins and acidity mean this wine will show at its best with a robust meal and a little decanting. Established in 1995 by the husband and wife team of Geoff Rusack and Alison Wrigley Rusack, the forty-eight acre Ballard Canyon estate is planted with seventeen acres of grapes. They also farm a very small vineyard on Santa Catalina island in the Channel Islands! Santa Catalina Island’s El Rancho Escondido was founded by Alison’s family in 1930. Little did they know then that the classic, cool-climate conditions and clay loam soils that exist there would make it a world-class site for grapes.
