48% Grenache, 37% Shiraz, and 15% Mataro; farming is organic and biodynamic. Each was fermented wild and aged separately in concrete before blending and final 2 months in a 2700L foudre. An average of 70% was left as whole bunches. Unfined and unfiltered. 14.6% alcohol. Medium-full bodied, with lifted aromas of dark raspberry, blackberry, and licorice, complemented by vanillin earth and peppery spice. Its rich palate showcases flavors of blackberry, licorice, dark raspberry, and dark chocolate, supported by structured tannins and fresh acidity. Excellent stuff as always from Alkina. The farm at Alkina was established in 2015 when Argentinian vintner, Alejandro Bulgheroni purchased a property near Greenock in the Barossa Valley. The property consisted of a vineyard planted in the 1950s and old stone buildings built in the 1850s.
