40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 20% Syrah from the Campo ai Ciliegi vineyard in Casavecchia, planted in 1993 at over 1000’ elevation on limestone and clay and surrounded by cherry trees. Native yeast fermentation in steel before 20 months on aging in neutral oak. Only 2,000 bottles made and only 240 bottles came to the United States! Juicy, intense, and aromatic, offering the perfect intersection of fleshy cherried fruit, ‘eau-de-Italian deli’ (espresso, oregano, salumi) and savory, mineral-driven earth. Medium full bodied and quite structured. This vineyard has been producing globally renowned wines for almost 1,000 years. It was such a sensation in the late 1400s that Michelangelo purchased the entire property so he could corner access to his favorite wine to drink while completing his work in nearby Florence and in Rome.
