Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, blended with smaller amounts of Cinsault and other traditional varieties. Each varietal is fermented separately in stainless steel and aged for 15 months in older oak barrels. 14.5% alcohol. Pours a dark ruby color and shows off ripe dark red and black fruits, nutmeg and spice, violets and earth on the nose. Medium-full bodied, dry, bold and intense on the palate, with firm, fine tannins and medium-plus acidity. Despite all of the richness and structure, the wine is super balanced and rather silky on the palate. Maison Calvet is a historic French wine merchant and producer founded in 1818 by Jean-Marie Calvet.
