2021 Marco Porello Barolo DOCG

Amazing Barolo value here! 100% Nebbiolo, sustainably farmed, fermented with native yeasts, and aged for 18 months in neutral oak. Marco Porello is a third generation winemaker in the Roero, a region just north of Barolo best known for its white wines made from the Arneis grape. In exceptional years, they also make a Barolo- and 2021 is being hailed as a modern classic of a vintage, providing bright, pure fruit, saline minerality, and polished, ripe tannins. This is classic, balanced Barolo- a bit on the lighter side for the style and already accessible for near term drinking. Rose petal, tar, leather, cherry, oak, raspberry, blackberry and orange peel all make appearances in the medium-full bodied, complexly layered and textured palate. Acidity and tannin are high but not aggresive, and the flavors and textures linger in the mouth. Decant to drink now or age 10+ years.

93 points, Falstaff. "Clear, intense ruby red colour. Lots of ripe fruit on the nose, reminiscent of plum and cherry, followed by rose petal and cigar box. Delicious fruit on the palate, compact, gripping tannins, refreshing acidity, savory finish."
