100% Sangiovese sustainably grown at 1450’ elevation on red, obsidian-strewn soil resulting from Mt. Konocti’s volcanic upheaval. Winemaker/owner Pietro Buttitta planted this ten acre vineyard himself. Five clones including Brunello 06 and Biondi-Santi, Prugnolo Gentile, and Romagnolo VCR 23. All clones hand harvested and fermented separately.Varying degrees of stem inclusion. Wood-basket pressed and aged in neutral Hungarian oak. No racking until bottling 23 months later. Unfined, unfiltered. 14.1% alcohol. 240 cases produced. Gives off a nose of bright red fruit, dried rose petals, dusty earth and a bit of black tea. Tons of red cherry and spice on the medium bodied palate with Sangiovese’s characteristic tannin and acid. More rustic than most CA wines but fruitier than most Italian Sangioveses.
