An organically farmed blend of Corinto Nero, Nero d’Avola and Alicante from Lipari, a small volcanic island off the coast of northeastern Sicily. Vines are planted in the Alberello technique (free standing “little tree”). Handpicked, destemmed, and fermented with native yeasts. Aged simply in stainless steel. Bottled unfined/unfiltered with minimal sulphur. 12.5% alcohol. Pours a deep translucent ruby red with a hint of garnet. Tons of savory notes on the nose of earth, smoke and cocoa alongside hibiscus and brambly red fruits. Surprisingly rich and powerful on the bone dry palate for a wine with such low alcohol. Tart and dried red fruits, a Sangiovese-esque hint of iron- not surprising since Corinto Nero is a local clone of Sangiovese. There’s still plenty of tannin and acid in this wine- give it some time with air to show its best.
