90% Vermentino Nero, 10% Pollera, all farmed organically and sourced from vineyards on grey clay soils. Vineyards are from 70 – 200 meters above sea level in the commune of Fosdinovo. Maceration (semi-carbonic) and fermentation use indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, and the wine is aged for eight months on its lees before being racked by gravity only. Only 2500 cases are produced each year of this rare wine.
Tasting Notes
This lies somewhere along the lines of a Pinot Noir with its bright acidity and lighter body. A great bargain on a rare, food friendly and well made wine. Reminiscent of red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, cassis, forest floor and olive with powdery tannins in support.
About Terenzuola
The Terenzuola estate is located in extreme northern part of coastal Tuscany, in the Colli di Luni DOC, which also overlaps the southeastern corner of Liguria. This small estate is planted predominantly to Vermentino, with smaller parcels of indigenous varieties like Merla, Vernaccia Nera and Pollera. The estate’s first bottling was in 1996. Today, the estate is run by Ivan Giuliani, who converted the family farm over to organic practices. He is very dedicated and talented.
