100% Grüner Veltliner, a rarity in South Tyrol, found only in the Eisack Valley. 30 year old vines grown in the pergola system. Fermented with native yeast in steel, and aged mostly in steel with a small percentage in small oak barrels. 12.5% alcohol. Pours a deep yellow color and aromatically reminds me a bit of nice, dry Riesling, with plenty of crisp green apple, pear and apricot along with some more exotic tropical notes of lychee and dried pineapple. There’s a hint of Grüner’s classic white pepper note and some nice savory, almost olive-like aromas. Medium bodied and very dry, with a rounded mouthfeel and high, tangy acidity. Spicy, salty and mineral. Wonderful food wine for roasted veggies and fish dishes. The Ebner estate is located on the sunny plateau of the Rittner Horn on a rocky outcrop near Atzwang in the southernmost reaches of the Eisack Valley, with wonderful views of the Schlern massif and Völs.
