Tasting Notes

This wine has been referred to “Spain’s answer to Silver Oak” for good reason- it’s wild to think that it retails for $25. Matching bold and rich Tempranillo fruit with toasty and spicy American oak, this will please lovers of Silver Oak and other rich, dark, oaked New World reds as well as lovers of Spanish wines. It has aromas and flavors of rich, ripe red fruits like mulberry, cherry, blackberry and peaches with integrated oak notes of vanilla, toast, baking spice and fresh cream. Full bodied, rich, and smooth, it shows excellent balance between tannin, body, alcohol, fruit ripeness and acidity.

About Bodegas Federico

Based in the village of Pesquera de Duero, husband and wife Federico Fernández and Celia Rodríguez have been crafting true and traditional Ribera del Duero since 1986. They work entirely with old Tempranillo vines, and they only use American oak to age their big and hearty reds. Their children were born at the same time as the vines were being trained in espalier form, and the winery warehouse filled up with ageing barrels.  Federico’s brother Alejandro gets all of the attention. He’s the guy behind the famed Pesquera and Condado de Haza estates, two wineries that helped put Ribera del Duero on the map.  The soil varies slightly depending on the plot, with lime-rich clay soils, low in nutrients and organic matter, where the vines must fight to survive and struggle to find water. Slopes and hillsides, rocks, clay, micro-organisms, nutrients and minerals all have a vital part to play in the creation of the large, aromatic grapes.
