100% Chardonnay from the sustainably farmed Vista Montone estate vineyard, in the southern end of the Napa Valley, very close to San Pablo Bay. 82% of the wine was barrel fermented and underwent malolactic fermentation before aging on the lees for six months, which adds complexity and roundness to the finished wine. 18% of the wine was fermented in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation and lees stirred two times per week for six months. 13.6% alcohol. 5,500 six packs made.
Excellent quality to price ratio on a lighter bodied, zippier style of Napa Chardonnay. Floral and lightly oaky on the nose, with underripe stone fruit, pithy citrus, honey and lightly toasted oak. Very smooth and rich in the mouth despite the moderate alcohol.
In 1993, Randy Mason and his wife Megan launched Mason Cellars in Oakville, combining his passion for Sauvignon Blanc and her marketing expertise. For nearly 25 years, they have produced classically styled Napa Valley wines. They introduced Pomelo in 2004 and Three Pears in 2008. Before Mason Cellars, Randy managed vineyards for Chappellet and was head winemaker at Lakespring Winery for 14 years. He also helped develop Napa Wine Company in 1993, releasing his first acclaimed Sauvignon Blanc under Mason Cellars in 1996.
91 points, Wine Enthusiuast. "Racy and bright, this is a uniquely nervy Chardonnay built for fresh seafood as much as rich risottos. White grapefruit pith, white peach, and a sprinkle of sea salt complete the wine."
