2022 Ser Sparkling Grüner Veltliner 'Mesa Del Rio Vineyard'

100% Grüner Veltliner from the Mesa del Rio Vineyard, a benchland parcel on the western side of the Salinas Valley at the foot of the Santa Lucia Highlands.  Made in the “methode champenoise,” and aged on the lees for 18 months. 12% alcohol. This wine is a real charmer, with an elegant, refined nose of vanilla, hazelnut, peach leaf/almond blossom and a pithy statement of grapefruit and orange rind. Light and lively on the palate with balanced acidity. Nicole Walsh is a Santa Cruz legend- she has worked with Randall Graham at Bonny Doon since 2001 and still manages the Popelouchum property, just outside of San Juan Bautista. This is her personal project, focused on coastal vineyards, unusual varietals and minimal cellar intervention.
