95% Sangiovese and 5% Balsamina/Negretto from the single vineyad ‘Papesse,’ at over 1600’ elevation in the midst of the Italian Apennines, on sandstone soils of marine origin. Farmed organically and biodynamically. Fermented with native yeasts and aged 6 months in cement vats. 12.5% alcohol. This ain’t Brunello! Shows off a bright, vibrant nose of herbs, rose petals, chocolate, amaro and red berries with just a tiny bit of pleasing funkiness. Light to medium bodied, lean and structured, with a great mix of fruit and savory components. The cold mountain climate allows for a refreshing, mouth-cleansing acidity that balances out the firm tannins.
