60% Carricante, 40% Grecanico; sustainably farmed. The ‘Tartaraci’ vineyard sits on the northwest slope of Mount Etna, in the Bronte region. Facing north, this high-altitude plot (3,215 feet) has pure black and richly mineral volcanic soils. With bush-trained vines more than 100 years old, this is a unique vineyard, covered in snow during winter and Mediterranean-hot in summer. Hand harvested, fermented and aged in large old oak tonneaux. Native yeasts only. Light to medium bodied and crisp, balancing floral notes of jasmine and citrus blossom with chalky, volcanic minerality and bright, clean citrus fruit. Winemaker Mirella Buscemi, originally from Syracuse, is a trained chemist; she was gifted this vineyard as a wedding present from her husband’s family, who own Graci in Passopisciaro.
