76% Zinfandel, 11% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Grenache, 3% Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Negrette, and others. Sourced in majority from Sodini Ranch, Bedrock Vineyard, and Teldeschi Ranch. Additionally, fruit is sourced in smaller quantities from Beeson Ranch, Katushas’, Pato, Mori, Dolinsek, Banfield, Sky, and Old Hill Ranch. 70% of the vineyard sources are farmed by Bedrock. The average age of the vine is 80 years old. Elevage 10 months in combination of neutral vessels (foudre, puncheon, and barrique), with the addition of a very small percentage in new oak.
The nose opens to bright peppery spice, fresh cut flowers, and black raspberries, with deeper notes of fresh sanguine earth coming through. The palate is full-bodied yet restrained, with a detailed structure and length with a mountainous feel. It’s a great lens into the range they produce here at Bedrock and a tremendous value. Drink 2025-2032.
Bedrock Wine Co. was started in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson. Working out of a small converted chicken coop in a friend’s backyard, Morgan focused on making personality-filled wines wrought from a small array of thoughtfully farmed vineyards. Over time the chicken coop and its outdoor fermenters and tiny basket press gave way to production at another friend’s winery and eventually to the “elegant” tin-sided warehouse that is now called home. In addition, after six years of working alone the winery welcomed Chris Cottrell as a partner-in-crime along with a small, dedicated staff of highly decent human beings.
