100% Chardonnay from the Jespersen Ranch in the northwestern corner of the Edna Valley, only four miles from the ocean. Fewer than .1% of California vineyards are planted this close to the coast, making the Chardonnay from this site a rare expression. The 2023 vintage was heralded as one of the best vintages of the last decade and was a definitive end to three years of drought. The long growing season created complex, elegant flavors and beautiful balance. Hand harvested over an incredible six weeks! Whole cluster pressed and fermented in oak. Aged in the same barrels (25% new) for 14 months. 13.3% alcohol. 1,475 cases made. Made in a modern cool-climate California style, the Chardonnay is especially appealing with its firm backbone, full-flavored and beautifully balanced palate, and an exceptionally long, rich, mineral-like finish. The oak influence is modest and well-integrated.
