2023 Poggio ‘Solilu' Moscato d'Asti
Product Details
Brand: Poggio
Wine Type: Sweet Wine
Grape Varietal: Moscato
Country of Origin: Italy
Appellation/Region: Piedmont

On paper, Moscato d’Asti sounds like a simple little wine. It has 5% alcohol and maybe 5% sugar, which adds a little sparkle to it, and makes it easy to drink. But when you’re making it from low yield, 40-year-old vines the entire dynamic changes. It may be light, but it leaves a big impression.

Tasting Notes

The first thing you notice is the presence of a few bubbles. Not a lot, just enough to amuse. Then comes the musk and floral notes, followed by peach, apricot, and spiced apple. The finish is tart and clean, which can match almost any dish imaginable. It’s hard to imagine anyone drinking this wine without having a smile on their face.

About Azienda Agricola Poggio

Azienda Agricola Poggio is a family winery founded in the 1899. The family winery is located at 350m above sea level, situated on the rolling hills between the Langhe and Monferrato regions. The family grows about 25 acres of vineyards. Barbera, Dolcetto, Brachetto, Moscato, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown. The climate is Mediterranean with some continental influence especially in winter; during the entire vegetative cycle of the vine, the predominant factor is the constant wind of the South direction called “Marin” (of the sea) which favours an excellent ripening of the grapes, since it increases the temperature range between night and day.  They personally oversee every vine’s growing stage, from pruning through to harvest, and they take the most ardent care in the winemaking process from crushing through to bottling, to ensure that they can craft the “ultimate finest quality wines.”
