90% Carricante, 10% indigenous varieties (Minnella, Inzolia, Grecancico, Catarratto); all farmed organically on vines 40-100 years old on volcanic and clay-limestone soils. The vineyards are on the northern slope of Mount Etna, near the village of Solicchiata, at 2,500 feet above sea level. Aged 7 months in 500-L oak barrels on lees. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur. 11.5% alcohol. Carmelo Vecchio and his wife, Rosa La Guzza, did not come from afar to make wine on Etna: they are true locals, raised in the heart of the vineyards. Carmelo began working at the nearby Passopisciaro winery at a young age, and they inherited vines up to 140 years old from Rosa’s family. The savory, salty aromas of wildflowers, saffron, beeswax, and Mediterranean herbs could only come from Etna. Rich, fleshy, and focused, all at low alcohol levels. 20
