100% Pinot Noir (Dijon clone 115) from the estate Spring Creek Vineyard. These vines were planted in 1997. Specific rows of Hidden Block Pinot Noir were picked before first light to ensure fresh, intact fruit. The berries are whole-cluster pressed and the juice is settled overnight. A portion of saignée from Picnic and Upper Picnic blocks is blended in with the direct press. After racking off the lees, the juice ferments in stainless steel, where it remains for 6 months before bottling in the spring. 12.5% alcohol. 180 cases made.
Opening with nectarine and white flowers, this rose is energetic and chalky. With delicate cherry and raspberry on the palate, and a peppy grapefruit soda quality in the background, this rose beckons the sunshine.
Neely is a bit of a hidden gem in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, albeit with some serious pedigree. Set across 240 acres with just 16 acres planted close to the town of Portola Valley, the Neely family has owned this place since 1995, their Spring Ridge Vineyard originally planted in 1980 by the Varner brothers to Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.
