100% certified organic Pinot Meunier. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and barrels, aged on lees for four years before disgorging. 7 g/L dosage. On the elegant nose, stone fruits, citrus, apple, freshly baked bread with a lovely richness of fruit. Ripe peach, yellow apple, creamy apricot, lemon zest, mandarin and a touch of honey, toasted almond, and shortbread pastry. Touch of warm spice on the finish. Very well balanced, with an impossibly long finish. Very vinous. Maud and Vincent Lagille’s certified organic, 18 acre vineyard sits on the Treslon/Vrigny border, with all vines in walking distance of their small cellar. The Lagille family have been winegrowers in this corner of Champagne since the 1600’s, and the present-day cellar has been the family’s HQ since 1818. These are under-the-radar Champagnes- only 20 cases of this wine came to the USA!
Winery Notes
"A Champagne for pleasure, L’Inattendue is produced exclusively from the terroir of Treslon. Unexpected because it is rare in Champagne to see an entry-range cuvée made from a single grape variety : a 100% Pinot Meunier, the main grape variety on the estate. Simple and elegant, L’Inattendue offers a beautiful effervescence, a delicate nose, and an aromatic combination of roundness, fruit and freshness."
